Message from ex-co member:
New Face of Holy Family
Vivid is my memory of the
first day when I joined Holy Family. Our principal then, Sister Marie Remedios, told us it was the 10th anniversary of our
school. In the blink of an eye, our alma mater has entered its 38th
year.
As a member of the AA
Executive Committee and one of the AA representatives on the School
Consultative Committee, I have watched our school’s development in the
recent years at close range. I must say I am impressed by the
determination and vitality with which Holy Family embraces the
challenges presented by the education reforms.
The improvement to the school
environment and facilities is the most apparent. Besides the addition
of the new wing, the Foundress Building, various rooms have been
converted into centres of learning for different purposes. Among them
is a cyber feel Lecture Theatre where the old Music Room once was.
Wooden flooring has replaced the vinyl tiles in the Hall while various
fixtures and furniture are being upgraded or renewed. Gone are the
dimly-lit and drab changing room and toilets. Even the white statue
of the Holy Family at the main entrance has received a coat of
colourful paint. These and many more projects, together with the
greening effort, have created a much brighter and more pleasant
environment that is conducive to learning.
A new face of HFCC has come
about, thanks to the leadership of Mrs. Lucilla Yip, our new Principal
who is only in the third year of her service. However, the physical
changes would mean little if they could not be matched with
progressive thinking and positive actions.
It is indeed our
blessing to have a principal who is an enthusiastic and devout
Catholic committed to a clear vision. As a lay Canossian educator,
Mrs. Yip adheres closely to our Foundress’ educational blueprint - the
Formation of Heart, which stresses “Centre on the Person” and “Option
for the Poor”. Students are infused with their love of God and a
caring heart for others, especially the needy. Their horizons are
broadened as they are taken on visits to other parts of the world,
including the deprived schools in China. Most importantly, this
vision is clearly communicated to the teachers, and they are motivated
to devote themselves to work towards the best interests of the
students so that no one is left behind while the talented are given
the chance to excel themselves.
As a Holy Familian, I am
really happy to see the progress of our alma mater. It is beyond
doubt that we have to thank Mrs. Yip for her outstanding leadership.
At the same time, we must also appreciate the unfailing support given
by the Supervisor, Sister Theresa Chun, the tireless service of the
teachers, and last but not least, the sound foundation laid down by
all the principals before her.
I sincerely invite you to be a
witness of the development of our alma mater by actively contributing
to her. We, as alumnae, surely have a role to play and I hope to see
more of you joining us and reestablishing your tie to our big family.
May God bless you all.
